An Award and a Random Photo or Two or Three or Four

 Wonderful Team Member Readership Award

Much thanks to the very chic Jan of Fort Smith Stylista who nominated me for this award and whose blog I always enjoy reading.  Not only does Jan share pictures of her own personal style, her beautiful hair and her favourite skirt pattern, she writes her blog with thought and care, sharing my own love of words but utilizing them much better than I do, with the same care you can see she puts into her personal appearance.   Despite having a full blogroll and many comments on her own blog to keep her busy, Jan has been an early supporter of my fledgling efforts, leaving encouraging and supportive comments as often as she can.

The Rules
1. The Nominee of the Wonderful Team Member Readership Award shall display the logo on his/her post/page and/or sidebar.

2. The Nominee shall nominate 14 readers they appreciate over a period of 7 days (1 week) – this can be done at any rate during the week. It can be ALL on one day or a few on one day and a few on another day, etc.

3. The Nominee shall name his or her Wonderful Team Member Readership Award nominees on a post or on posts during the 7 day (1 week) period.

4. The Nominee shall make these rules, or amended rules keeping to the spirit of the Wonderful Team Member Readership Award, known to each reader s/he nominates.

5. The Nominee must finish this sentence and post: ”A Great reader is…”

                                       **************

Okay, this is me, so you know I'm going to "finish the sentence" with a paragraph.

A great reader is, for me at this point, someone who takes the time to leave a response because I am a very new blogger and such support and encouragement is so umm, well, supportive and encouraging.  I love how we can celebrate our differences and similarities this way, the feeling of sisterhood that is not so easily found in this world, and the fact that because this is the internet women all over the world are within reach.

Having spent a lot of time as an invisible blog reader, I am aware I may possibly have, in fact the stats show that I do have, readers who never leave comments.  In my mind they too are great readers because they show up and are counted, which encourages me to keep going.  I think of myself as a writer and artist well ahead of a photographer or style blogger and my blog topics are a bit random.  And yet people show up to visit.  I meet new people all the time as I discover new blogs and as someone new takes the time to leave a comment for me.  It is very much appreciated.

These are the people who consistently offer their comments and support.  I have not counted how many of them there are and the list is growing so following the rules gets more difficult daily!  Thank you to all mentioned here and anyone who has more recently begun leaving me comments or started following my blog.

Random Photos Bit

I was out doing some basic shopping and suddenly I needed to buy an elephant.   I have a small elephant collection, meaning both the collection is small and so are the elephants.  This little sweetheart is one of those charity things where the money goes to women's shelters and to be honest I don't know how much of it goes but I really wanted the elephant anyhow.  She needs a name but I haven't come up with it yet.

And speaking of collections, I added another cat to my outdoor cat collection.

It's the crouching kitty on the right that looks a bit like a demented rat.

And the indoor cat, Sophie, out for her evening balcony sniffing routine.  She is currently quite peeved with me and giving me the evil eye from outside as I type this.  I scolded her and said no to a bit of naughtiness and she obeyed me, as she always does.  This annoys her greatly but she knows she is only princess and I am the queen.

  1. Thanks for including me! You may be new, but you're one of my favorite blogs to read, maybe because your subject matter is random. I don't need to hear about designer clothes or make-up, but I do like reading your good writing about everyday things. And I love your sense of humor!

Some of the names on your list are blogs I've only touched on - there are so many, and I only have so much time - and now that you mention them, I'm going to go look at them again.

    1. Thank you Val! I can't deny that it's nice to be appreciated. I'll try to remember not to offer up any opinions on makeup or designer clothes. ;-)

I am definitely adding more and more blogs to my list and finding it more difficult to get to them all. And I have more time than the average person! The good manners I was raised with compel me to leave comments on blogs and to respond to people who comment on mine. If and when it gets to the point where I can't do this I am going to suffer a great deal of angst. It might require writing about.

  2. PS - For some reason, the elephant looks like a Pat to me.

    1. LOL I've had Pat and Gertrude now as suggestions. Perhaps she has two names. Gerty-Pat or Patty-Gert.

  3. Ha! I'd be mighty surprised that your cat knows you are the Queen. All the cats I've met don't obey or realize there are other beings on the earth.

Thanks for nominating me : ) I'm like you, I feel that by leaving a comment you let the blogger know you appreciate them and their effort. Otherwise it is like talking to a black hole in space.

    That little elephant is adorable!

    bisous

    1. My cat is a little bit of an oddball and seems to be part dog. She does actually obey in the moment but of course will repeat the offense as soon as I am not looking. I've had one other cat like that, but it's true that most of then aren't. Mine comes when she is called and loves to play fetch too.

  4. That elephant is gorgeous, if my sewing dog is Melvin I'm thinking she should be a Gertrude, rather stately and somewhat gentile. Loving the cat collection and, of course, the real one, too!
Thanks for the mention. You are such a wonderful supporter and a thoughtful commenter. I've met neighbours who've told me that they've read my blog for years but never commented - its a very strange thing! xxx

    1. Yes Gertrude does sound very elephant appropriate. the stationary cats are much better behaved, but the real one is awfully cuddly so she gets away with a lot.

The people closest to me in my offline world, have all had a peek at my blog but so far as I know aren't regular readers and certainly don't leave comments. They all seem to think it's a bit weird but whatever makes you happy. I haven't really spread the word about it and it isn't even mentioned on my Facebook page or pinterest page but then I'm not very active in those places either. I'm just a super friendly anti-social person. xo

  5. This was a cool post! I think that although you are new to blogging, you are doing a terrific job! That elephant is too cute! I also love your outdoor cat party you've got going on, so many of my friends love cats and would be all over that.

    1. Thank you, Sarah! All my cats come from the thrift shop, well not the live cat but the ones in my collection. So do my other elephants. I have a bird collection too. The cats leave the birds alone which is very obliging of them.

    1. Yes, it does get a bit tricky when one is part of a community and we are all each others' readers. I'm sure it is fine to adapt it to suit your needs. My biggest fear with these awards is accidentally leaving someone out.

I love elephants and envy you for getting to cuddle one. They are really awesome animals in the true sense of the word.

My diva cat is out on the balcony getting her fresh air but soon will come in for her afternoon nap cuddled up with me. I will give her a cuddle from you too! She will lick your hand.

  8. Thanks for the mention! that's such a lovely thing to do! comments, for me are so important, it's a form of a relationship I suppose, but they are ones I cherish -
You elephant is very lovely, very serene and happy, don't know why but Enid speaks to me!! of course Sophie is the princess you are rightly the Queen x x x

    1. I love the comments too and the chance to chat with people. I am, perhaps uniquely, an introvert who does love to chat with people. But I prefer one on one and the internet is a really good way of being able to control my socialising so that it doesn't overwhelm me. Have I just made myself sound a bit odd? LOL hopefully not.

  9. Thank you, Shawna! I do try to read and comment properly (not just the "nice shoes" type of comment...) and I can see that you do the same. It is the whole purpose of blogging for me, that conversation, otherwise as Suzanne says, we are just talking into a void.
The floral elephant (Flora?) is gorgeous. Though not as gorgeous as Sophie. I think you may be wrong - she IS the Queen, she's just allowing you to think that you might be! xxx

    1. Flora is a good name too. It makes me think of Babar The Elephant. I am going to go on thinking I am Queen. The Princess Royal is out on the balcony doing her daredevil routine. She fell off once. It scared her for awhile but now she is back to doing the same risky antics.

  10. Aw, I haven't been in bogland much these days, Shawna, but thanks for the sweet mention. I don't always comment these days, but I do pop in regularly. :) LOVE the wee elephant! And of course, the kitty.

  11. Thank you for mentioning me Shawna, I am already suffering angst as I don't always have the time to comment properly and do resort to the quick comment more often than I would like.I have been very busy at work lately with lots of travelling and then fall asleep on the sofa in the evenings.
I like your new addition to your small elephant collection and your eclectic cat collection is great.
