I Love Soft Clothes

While they are quite comfortable, these jeans are perhaps not my most flattering pair.  They are supposed to be boyfriend jeans but boyfriends don't usually have my shape so they are just baggy in some places and tight in others.  They are probably not doing me any favours but they aren't horrendous either.  They were not at all expensive and I should maybe not hang onto them but they are so comfortable and soft.  Maybe I should just not go out in them.  They are loose in the thigh but tight in the calf, which I suspect is largely due to them being meant for someone shorter and so the leg opening would be closer to the ankle.  On me they are attempting to be clam diggers.  Maybe clam diggers are okay.  I have two pairs of them.  Keep, donate, only wear around the house-your thoughts?

Today I wore another super soft item, my military inspired jacket which is much silkier than any real military clothes would be.  I really wanted to wear the jacket with a skirt or dress but couldn't get my act together and get out the door in time.  I love the little white sweater, the jacket and my purple scarf, but the jeans, I am not sure about.  I think I like all the individual pieces more than the  ensemble.  And using fancy words like ensemble don't make it look any better.

Someone (I cannot remember who so if it was you, do step forward and take credit) left a comment on a blog once saying it is nice sometimes to see someone's mistakes or mediocre outfits and not always the stuff that worked best.  Perhaps there is some value in going through the thought process with someone else to see why they rejected an outfit.  I have lots of rejects.  This could be my specialty.  I could be the blog representative of What Not To Wear!

Last thoughts:
My shoes always look darker than they actually are in the photos.  These shoes are a sort of taupe/brown with a bit of a purple undertone, not the dark brown or black they look here.
Yay-Val I finally got the alignment fixed.  Clearly I was drunk when I tried before.  Yes, that must be what it was.

Happy Weekend, everyone.

  1. I think it's actually the jacket that needs to go - I like the outfit a lot better without it. Or maybe the jacket just needs to be closed so there's more shape.

You're the Director of Awesome - you have no rejects! Everything is perfect, or at least ironic. Even your switch to center alignment was probably all part of your artistic composition, huh? (There's a button on your blog editor at the top of the text that controls alignment. I'd tell you more, but I'm not sure I remember it without looking.)

  2. I think the jeans look really nice on you and you've styled it beautifully! Love the bracelet too!

  3. LOL-I played with that button but it didn't fix anything. I will try again. Most likely I did something wrong.
I LOVE that jacket. When you say "go" I do hope you mean go with something else and not go into the donation pile. It has to work with something in my closet or I will cry. I will play around with it more and perhaps do it up. Now I have to learn to manipulate alignment and wear a jacket. So much to do!

  4. Thanks Elsie! I forgot to do a closeup of the bracelets. It's three of then, two are amber glass beads and the other some mixed glass beads all from the thrift shop. I love glass beads! Have a great weekend. I'm off to bed now.

  5. Shawna, when I read your posts, because of your description, I always brace myself for what I am going to see. But yet, when I sctoll down, I am always pleasantly surprised. Your jeans fit you nicely.

  6. do you really want to know?? ;-)
the jeans are perfect! dont know where it come from that only skintight clothes are flattering. strange.
the jacket is cool! but with two plain, "manly" pieces (jacket&jeans) i would wear a
more "decorated" top (to town - for prancing around in the woods it would be anyway). and whats about that "i try to hide my boobs"-scarf?
I hope I did not make you very angry - but I think when someone asks for help - then they can not be fobbed off with empty compliments.

so please keep the jeans because you feel comfortable in them and that shows!
trust your artisan mind and toss the fears out of the window - just make sure they dont hit someone else ;-)

    1. Yes, I get your point about the more decorated top. Of course you didn't make me angry. It's not very easy to make me angry and I am generally an annoyingly cheerful person! I only wore the jacket to my destination and then took it off for a few hours. So it was mostly in the car. I am totally busted there on the boob hiding-lol. But I also have another dilemma. My favourite colours and patterns are all in my massive scarf collection and not in my actual clothes. Scarves are technically not the best accessory for my body type but I cannot resist wearing them.

I promise to look out the window carefully before I toss my fears out. They are indeed a bit heavy and might wound someone.

    2. wearing a scarf - or 2-3 - is not wrong, body shape or not. but how you wear the scarf say´s something - in this case uncertainty (hope the translator gave me the right word here)
      hug you!

    3. LOL-well I am uncertain as to my having felt uncertainty. I'd be more inclined to guess I felt certain that it looked better to wear my scarf long than to wear it up high where it would completely make my neck disappear. My greatest fear, the one I have to keep from hurting people when it flies out the window, is that I should not be wearing scarves at all. That would almost be like taking my books away from me.

  7. I think the jacket being so soft is why it's not reading well. But who cares! If you love it, wear it! The pants are fine! You're tall enough to deal with cropped pants. But if they're not comfortable...

    1. Yes, I had a suspicion of that. I'm 'supposed' to wear structured jackets but I don't really like them. I like soft things that drape. The pants are very comfortable but I wondered if they were odd looking in their clam diggerish sort of way. LOL

  8. I like the jeans and the jacket … I don't mind them together either … as long as you are going for a casual look. A structured jacket would definitely be needed to dress it up a bit.
I love soft clothes too … in fact I'm wearing some right now :0)

    1. Yep, definitely it was a casual look and no intention of being dressed up. I was actually dressing down. I am quite uncomfortable in a structured jacket and love soft things that drape although they are not always the most flattering on me. To some degree I don't care, but it's not my aim to look like a blog.
Yes, that's my style mantra "avoid the blob look."
      Hooray for soft clothes!

  9. I like the outfit, I do! I like the rolled up jeans, the white top, scarf and jacket, your stance is very cool too - softness in clothes is something I crave at times, I have a specific cardi for those moments, then annoy the feck out of everyone by asking them to feel it ha! x x x

    1. Yay someone likes my white top! LOL I am exactly like you and I make people feel my soft clothes too. I did that to my friend yesterday when I put on my jacket after we'd had our coffee. Of course I am also a hugger. I probably invade people's personal space sometimes.

It's funny about the stance, or what I jokingly think of as my modelling poses. I am not confident about them at all and feel quite dorky but I seem to pull off looking cool. I guess I can't complain about that!

Let's get together sometime and hug and feel each other's soft sweaters and go around town annoying the feck out of people. It sounds like great fun to me!

  10. I agree with everyone saying that the jeans are nice.

The green jacket just reminds me of what everyone on the Island wears. Somehow it is a bit like an Island uniform. Or maybe it reminds me of what I used to wear when I lived there.

Glad to hear your fears won't hurt someone out for a casual stroll by your window ; ) I've been hit by those before and they sting!

    bisous

    1. Okay, this is the second time you have said that I look like I'm in an island uniform. I guess it's no different from being a New Yorker in a New York uniform and perhaps I suit my environment or it suits me. However, I think I actually have a sort of university student vibe-or maybe prof since I'm old now ;-) I would very happily live in Victoria and be a permanent university student and wear my soft military jacket on alternate days with my colourful hoodie.

  11. I'm in the "it's the jacket" camp, I'm afraid! I think the jeans are fine, and can imagine them looking great with a Breton top. Don't tell me you can't wear horizontal stripes because you have big boobs - of course you can (I do!) Or anything with a brighter colour/pattern. I don't really do soft unstructured jackets at all, the shapelessness bothers me. But since we are talking about your clothes and not mine, then wear it if you love it! But it needs brighter shades with it, I think, to pick it up a bit.
I think blogging is a great way to get ideas and feedback and refine our style, and we all have misses/less successful outfits as well as the hits. As long as the suggestions and advice are solicited and kindly given, it's all good! xxx

    1. I am rapidly reaching a decision about that jacket which is "I don't care I love it". It is my version of wearing a jogging suit-lol. It's soft and comfortable and it isn't really my goal to stand out. That doesn't mean I don't want to look nice-despite nice being such a horrible word. I will indeed experiment with some brighter shades.

This blogging community which I have stumbled into is just so lovely for the gentle, kind and supportive comments. We all have different goals and needs and there is so much respect for that.

  12. I think you dress with style and I really love your outfits. Especially your awesome loafers :D I have lots of dumb outfits too, but that's the best part- to learn from your mistakes :D
And clam diggers? I have so many inappropriate jokes about this word :D

    1. Okay I really want to know all the inappropriate things about clam diggers. i hate to think what clams are probably a metaphor of....no actually I love to think and giggle. Thanks for the vote of confidence, Keit. And thanks for all the lovely comments you leave me.

  13. I think jeans fit you very well - I'm surprised that you don't think so, honestly. Wear them! I like your jacket as well, it's one of my fave styles of jackets, they go with literally everything. I think if I wanted to have this outfit (basic jeans + jacket) look a bit more interesting, I'd wear bright colored top, patterns, bold jewelry, and yes, scarf too. I love scarves, and this one is very pretty. Maybe just experiment with different ways to tie them (I know I don't experiment with that enough myself!). But I think it is a very nice look on you, a nice basic look. Have a beautiful weekend! :)

    1. Well I am being persuaded on the jeans and they are awfully comfortable. Lots of no votes for the jacket though-lol. I still love it. I agree that it needs something with a little more pizazz but then standing out is usually not my goal so it's okay with me to not always have pizazz. I tend to always wear my scarves long and dangling because that is supposed to be elongating and best for a short-average neck and large chest. Thanks for the vote of confidence for my low key basic look. You have a beautiful weekend too!

  14. I think you look great and I admire how open minded you are in suggestions. Your stance totally rocks! My only suggestion is that I would wear this lovely scarf around my neck and not hanging down. I think it would give a better result. I'm a great hugger, too, we all are here in Greece. It must be the wine!

    1. If you look at all the responses you will see that while there are some themes, not everyone agrees. That suggests perhaps that to a certain degree what looks good is in the eye of the beholder and thus there aren't right or wrong answers. I am a stubborn woman. If I like the suggestions I'll use them and if I don't I wont, but the responder still gets a hug!

  15. I too think the jeans look like a great fit on you. I understand very well the comfortable jeans that don't necessarily look good camp, but these look very nice. They show off the taper and length of your legs.

Re: the scarf: perhaps a higher wrap nearer the neck and above the bosom? You have a very nice figure, so setting the scarf closer to your neck to drape down behind or in front of the shoulders might help with boob peek-a-boo. :D

    1. Okay, the jeans are staying and I will now happily wear them and enjoy their comfort and not wonder if they look weird. I am making a note to myself to do more bosom flaunting. LOL hmmm. My newest plan is that if I grow out my hair I can wear scarves wrapped around a pony tail and that solves the whole problem. ;-)

  16. The jeans fit you fine, the jacket, the top, the scarf, all good basic pieces, if that's your bag and it must be of you wouldn't have bought them. Maybe a bolder top would have added interest and perhaps a couple of fancy brooches, badges or corsages pinned to the jacket but what do I know? I'm going to work this morning in a fringed go-go suit with a bare midriff! xxx

    1. Dear Vix, I think we all know I am not you! Of course there can only be one of you and we will treasure her. My bag is whatever takes my fancy. It varies. But I think essentially I don't really want to stand out. I want my work to stand out, my art and my writing but not my person. I hate being the centre of attention but I do like the freedom to wear whatever appeals to me even if it happens to be unconventional.

I know I know, you are thinking- just what do you wear that is unconventional? LOL. Not much probably, but you must consider my environment.
